What to do in Noto
Situated along the east cost of Sicily, Noto is the undisputed capital of Sicilian Baroque. Generally listed as one of the 'must-see' tourist attractions of this part of Sicily, the town was declared humanity heritage by UNESCO in 2002.
From here you can explore the southeastern Sicilian side with its cultural and natural treasures. You can enjoy the most beautiful beaches of the island: Cala and Pozzallo, Eloro or Cala Mosca inside the natural reserve of Vendicari. The Vendicari nature reserve boasts several of the finest sandy beaches, which are pleasingly under populated even in the height of summer. Vendicari is also home to thousands of migrating flamingos and sea turtles nest on its beaches.
Nearby Noto, other sites worth visiting (by car) include Noto Antica, the older town, Modica, Palazzo Acreide (former Akrai), Ragusa, a similarly-appealing Baroque town, the necropolis at Pantalica, Ispica Caves and the provincial capital, Siracusa just half an hour’s drive way with Ortigia (the old Siracusa) and its Greek Theatre. Not to miss in Noto are the famous and suggestive "Infiorata", a picturesque festival to welcome the spring, which takes place every third Sunday of May, since 1980. Local artists work overnight to prepare colorful real flower carpets all over the streets, every year with a different theme. The whole week is animated by concerts, exhibitions and festivals.
