ACCOMMODATION Beds & Baths: 4 BDR/4 BTH Nestled among five acres of lush lawns and olive groves, Villa Vittoria is the perfect destination for those planning to explore the artistic beauty of Florence, less than 10 miles away. Vittoria’s interior evokes the calm charm of its country surroundings. Larger groups can also rent the nearby La Florenza (which sleeps 4). Inside, you’ll be enveloped by warm, relaxing tones and surrounded by antique lighting fixtures, terra-cotta floors, and Tuscan wood beam ceilings. Each of the four bedrooms has an individual color scheme and romantic bed draped with curtains and covers and a private bathroom. There is a well-stocked kitchen with a traditional Tuscan wood-burning stove and two sitting areas—one with sofas, one with plasma TV and a small kitchenette. The English-speaking owners reside in this 17th-century villa’s other wing (with its own separate entrance) and remain on site. Relax and dine al fresco in Vittoria’s private loggia and then cool off in the large outdoor pool (shared with the guests of La Florenza). A quaint “equipped” town is less than a mile away and horseback riding, golfing, and fishing are all within easy reach. The train is only a 5-minute drive away and Florence can be reached in less than 10 miles. |

What to do in the Florence region of Tuscany: For those wishing to explore some of Tuscany's other treasures, Florence is an ideal base of operations. Tuscany stretches along the western coast of Italy from the Apennines to the Tyrrhenian Seaone of the best ways to see the region is by automobile. The small fortress cities are within easy driving distance of one another, and each offers its own special appeal, from San Gimignano to Pienza. Other cities to include in your excursion are Arezzo, with its grand plaza and Roman amphitheater, Lucca, with its olive groves and impressive Renaissance walls, and seaside resorts like Viareggio, Elba, and Forte de Marmi. Siena and Pisa, both also important art cities, are also not to be missed. Siena is a beautifully preserved medieval city, constructed of checkerboard brick, and crowned by its Duomo. It was the seat of the Ghibellines who often crossed swords with the Florentine Guelfs during the 13th century. Other highlights of Siena include the beautiful Piazza del Campo, and the tower rising from the Palazzo Pubblico. A day trip to the lovely ancient city of Pisa is also a must, where you can see the famous leaning tower, and much more. Recommendations: Restaurants
