Monteoliveto
and Sant’Antimo Abbey
Visit Monteoliveto Abbey built in 1313 - its main cloister
is entirely frescoed with “stories from the life of S. Benedict”
by Luca Signorelli and Sodoma (XV – XVI century) and the
church choir stalls are among the most exquisite marquetry in the area. Proceed to Sant'Antimo’s Abbey, one
of the most beautiful Romanesque architectures in Tuscany. Optional
lunch at local restaurant in Montalcino.
San
Galgano Abbey, Montesiepi Church and Torri Abbey
This one-day excursion starts with the visit of San Galgano, fascinating
construction in Cistercian Gothic style. The church, started
in 1224, lived a glorious and prosperous time until the
XV century when its decline began. Proceed
to visit the nearby Church of Montesiepi, in Pisan Romanesque
style, where the famous Sword of San Galgano is preserved, as
well as the extraordinary frescoes by Ambrogio Lorenzetti (c. 1340).
The tour continues with the visit of Torri abbey, built in the
XI century and its cloisters are among
the most beautiful architectures of the Siena surroundings. Optional

Abbadia
Isola and Casole d’ Elsa
A one-day
excursion starting with the visit of Abbadia Isola where the Badia
of San Salvatore is located. It was founded in 1101 and it is
still one of the most famous Romanesque churches in the Senese
area. Proceed to Casole D’Elsa to visit Collegiata of St.
Maria and its museum. Your
day continues with the visit of Pieve di Mensano, whose sculpted
architectural elements, particularly the capitals of the
columns. are often quoted among the finest examples of Romanesque
